Telephone Interview - 4 Tips to Interview Success IM HIRED
Telephone Interview - 4 Tips to Interview Success Ring Ring Your Next Career is Calling When applying for roles, youâre no doubt going to have to jump through a whole lot of hoops to get an offer. One of the first stages of any interview process is the telephone interview, but for most of us the telephone seems to have a strange affect on us. Talking to someone over the phone, can be the scariest part of the interview process. But take it from a recruiter, itâs just a conversation. So follow these 4 steps to land yourself a spot in the next round of interviews. Be Prepared for the Telephone Interview Like any interview, you need to be prepared for any questions that may come your way and that starts with researching. This is your chance to highlight how youâre the perfect candidate, tailoring your core skills and experiences to the job specification, making you more memorable to the recruiter. Most telephone interviews will start with questions such as âWhy did you apply for this role?â or âWhat do you know about X company?â You may have applied for several positions but donât get caught out by forgetting which job is which. Tailor your answers and be sure to showcase how you match each of the job requirements. Have examples on hand, filtering facts and figures into these occasions to add credibility. **TOP TIP** Sell yourself by having an attention grabbing opening. Engage the interviewer by summarising your experiences and any relevant qualifications, setting the tone for the rest of the interview. Consider your Location This might seem like a strange one, especially when you and the interviewer arenât going to see each other face to face. But location is an important aspect of any telephone interview. Your full focus needs to be on forming a connection with the interviewer, have a location in mind where you canât be distracted. Consider noise levels as well as whether you have a good phone signal. Those strong interview answers you have prepared will be wasted if the recruiter canât hear you or the flow of the conversation is lost as your phone keeps cutting out. Remember you donât need to complete the telephone interview then and there. Arrange a time that suits you, when youâre away from work and make sure to be on time. Get Connected Interviews are much more than just merely documenting your work history. With hundreds of applications per job, you need to stand out from the competition. Forming a connections and building a rapport with the interviewer is the easiest way to do this. Let your personality come through in the interview. Find common ground with the interviewer, helping them to see how you would fit with an existing team. Remembering key details from your interview, can help you personalise a post interview follow up message. Dress to Impress Whilst no one is going to see your outfit, getting dressed for success is all about mind set. It might be more comfortable to sit in your PJâs, but having a professional appearance will translate to a professional attitude. Try and stand up whilst speaking to help project confidence in the call. Take time to get ready for your interview, switching on your smart and professional persona.

25 Highest-Paying Companies in the U.S.
25 Highest-Paying Companies in the U.S. Itâs probably no surprise that Silicon Valley giants like Google and Facebook pay really well. Technology firms dominate the list of the 25 top paying companies in America from salary comparison site Glassdoor, taking up 20 of the top 25 slots. That said about the tech industry, this also was a very, very good year for consultants. Management consulting firm A.T. Kearney was the highest-paying company, with a median base salary of $143,620 and total median compensation (which includes other payments like commissions and bonuses) of $167,534. Last year A.T. Kearney was in fifth place, and law firm Skadden Arps held the number one spot; the new list doesnât have any law firms represented at all. Second place this year went to Strategy, another consulting company that was formerly known as Booz Company until it became part of the PwC family, with a median base salary of $147,000 and median total compensation of $160,000. A third consulting firm, McKinsey Company, also cracked the top five. Comparing salary alone, there was a tie between the two top paying companies, both in the consulting field: Both Strategy and Boston Consulting Group had a median salary of $147,000. Unfortunately for most of us, consulting salaries are so high because of what Glassdoor termed âbarriers of entryâ in the industry. People who earn those big paychecks need to have a network of valuable contacts, specialized skills, and experience. Some of the companies are more household names than others: Twitter, Microsoft, Visa â" the only financial firm on this yearâs list â" and divisions of both Amazon and Walmart all made the cut, along with lesser known but equally generous firms like Juniper Networks, Guidewire and Cloudera. If you have the tech chops (or are just curious) the full list can be viewed here. Glassdoor used employeesâ own anonymously reported salary data to compile the list. Read next: The 25 Highest-Paying Jobs of 2016 When it comes to corporate Americaâs demand for tech talent, people with the skills donât even have to work at a technology firm to command a top salaryâ"and better yet donât have to live in the pricey tech hub around San Francisco. âItâs not just at the companies most people are familiar with like Google and Facebook,â said Glassdoor community expert Scott Dobroski. For example, he highlighted Walmart eCommerce, which came in at number 15 on the list, with a median total compensation of $149,000. âThe company knows it needs top talent to help its online business grow,â he said.

Guidelines for Interviewing Short-Listed Leprechauns
Guidelines for Interviewing Short-Listed Leprechauns To mark St. Patricks Day (here in London), of course I have to write something about leprechauns. But to keep it relevant to jobs and hiring, it seems appropriate to explore a central leprechaun recruitment issue How to handle a leprechaun youve short-listed for a job. That special interviewing and vetting techniques are likely to be required should come as no big surprise after all, leprechauns are wily and mischievous, with a legendary agenda of their own, but with potential for big payoffs for the right employer willing to bet on riches at the end of the rainbow. Here are some general useful guidelinesTen Leprechaummandments, if you willto enaya your effectiveness and safety while interviewing a leprechaun1. Never preface a question with I would like to know. That may be interpreted by the leprechaun as one of your three wishes, in the event t he candidate is or becomes a captive, and therefore forced to fulfill your wish-trifecta.2. In general, their work experience is limited to making shoesin some instances only one shoe of a pair (or so it is said of them). Accordingly, short-listing should, where possible, be for positions with great skill transfer potential. Among the careers and jobs most suitable for a shoe-making leprechaun areDictator mentor Joseph Stalin and Mussolinis fathers started out as shoemakers (Mussolinis father having been a blacksmith, which means, among other things, making shoes for horses).Nike executive (mentor) Having mastered the ins and outs, so to speak, of shoe making, a Leprechaun will have a leg or shoe up on the competition and be well-qualified to mentor iron-fisted corporate leaders.GREEN-COLLAR LEPRECHAUNS, CHRIS AND TOBY, TRAFALGAR SQUARE, LONDON, ST. PATRICKS DAY 2013 (Photo Michael Moffa)Boot and policy maker for jack-booted dictators who havent used up their three wishes.Note that in terms of satisfying ambitions of global dominance and undisputed rule over the masses, either advisory role may be suitable for a short-listed leprechaun.3. If you ask whether an Irish brogue has been a career asset, expect an answer about a 1. a coarse shoe of untanned leather, formerly worn in Ireland and Scotland 2. a mans heavy oxford shoe, usually with decorative perforations and a wing tip. Thats assuming that the leprechaun can understand your non-Irish accent.4. If, because of the other kind of Irish brogue, you dont understand anything the leprechaun is saying, never ask him to repeat ityour request may be interpreted and wasted as one of your three wishes (if you have three coming to you).5. Never tell a leprechaun hes been short-listed. Not only is he likely to take offensehe may also sue you and your company for discrimination if hes not hired.6. Dont be surprised if the leprechaun is decked out entirely in green (or, much less commonly these days, red, depending on h is lineage). Moreover, dont expect the leprechaun to ever wear anything else on the job. Although shoe making has only a limited skill-transfer potential in a segue to hospital employment, the leprechauns insistence on wearing green may require taking a close look at a hospital career, even if not in the hospital OR. Alternatively, a position with Greenpeace or some other environmental protection group could be given close consideration.7. Dont hesitate to offer so-called dollar-a-year jobs that provide a token honorarium to select leprechaun professionals who, in effect, are volunteering their services. Presumably, the leprechaun will have lots of gold stashed somewhere, even if not at the end of a rainbow (which is obviously blarney designed to deflect would-be thieves from the real cash cache).POSSIBLE LEPRECHAUN SIGHTING, DUBLIN 2013 (Photo Michael Moffa)8. If you are not sure whether the candidate (who may resemble Chris, Toby or the figure shown in the London and Dublin photos ) is a leprechaun, you might consider dangling a compensation package with payment in gold rather than dollars as a litmus test. Being hardcore gold bugs, a leprechaun will pounce on that offer. The problem with that is, in light of virtually limitless quantitative easing and an exploding supply of Fed-issued fiat U.S. dollars and risk of hyperinflation, almost every savvy job applicant will (or should) respond the same way and go for the gold.9. If you are considering a leprechaun for a position with respect to which he is inexperienced, dont say that the company is willing to take on a green recruit. That will either confuse him or land you in court (again, for discrimination, however veiled).10. If the leprechaun is not suitable for any current opening, consider holding him captive and extracting three wishes. To maintain an appearance of perfect professionalism, you should carefully consider making the first wish one consistent with your industry code of ethics and expectations, say, I wish there were a job I could offer you, which will raise no eyebrows or suspicions, .since you say that every day.
